How to Choose the Right All Star Team for Your Athlete
With multiple team types offered at Zia Cheer, it can be hard to know which All Star path is right for your child. Whether they’re brand new to cheer or already have experience, we offer something for every age and skill level!
This guide will help you understand the differences between our Novice, Prep, and Elite teams—so you can make the best choice for your athlete’s goals, confidence, and schedule.
Novice Teams
- Ages: 4+
- Practice: 1x/week
- Competitions: Option to attend 1 or 2 per season
- Perfect for: Beginners or families looking for a low-commitment intro to All Star Cheer
Novice teams are fun, focused on fundamentals, and allow young athletes to explore the sport without feeling overwhelmed. No prior experience is needed—just excitement and a great attitude!
Prep Teams
- Ages: 6+
- Practice: 3x/week
- Competitions: 4–5 per season
- Perfect for: Athletes who want to build skills and compete more regularly without the highest level of commitment
Prep teams offer a great balance between competitive training and family flexibility. These athletes get more performance opportunities and work on perfecting technique throughout the year.
Elite Teams
- Ages: 7+
- Practice: 3x/week
- Competitions: 5–6 per season
- Perfect for: Athletes with prior cheer experience, or athletes who want a high-level, competitive environment
Our Elite teams are for athletes ready to commit to serious training. These teams compete at the highest level and focus on skill progression, stunts, tumbling, and routine performance.
So... Which Team is Right for You?
Here are a few things to consider when making your decision:
- Does your athlete already have cheer or tumbling experience?
- How many days a week can your family commit to practice?
- Are you looking for beginner-friendly or competitive training?
Still unsure? We’re happy to help! Every athlete makes a team, and we’re here to guide you to the one that fits best.
